Mercedes Brusa, a member of the assaulted family, detailed that the attackers threw stones at their home and shouted homophobic insults, which has been reported and is being investigated by the relevant authorities. Brusa, a resident of the neighborhood for 36 years, stated that conflicts with the aggressive neighbors have been occurring since 2016 with previous complaints of violence and threats against her and other residents. Despite the intimidations, Brusa highlighted that they will not be intimidated by their sexual identities or political ideology.
Mercedes Brusa's daughter, Solana López, described the attack as a fascist act of hatred perpetrated by neighbors who are aware of her family's human rights activism. Various organizations and leaders, including the Forum for Freedom, expressed their condemnation and solidarity with the victims, demanding a thorough investigation and the strict application of the law.
The Municipal Commission of Memory of Río Cuarto condemned the attack, calling it an expression of hate speech and political violence that characterizes the current social context. Likewise, the Human Rights Observatory of the University of Córdoba highlighted Mercedes Brusa's track record in defending human rights and called for not allowing her family to be attacked for their activism, identity, or history. Cheku Romero, a leader of the LGBTQ+ community, expressed his condemnation of the homophobic and transphobic attacks suffered by Brusa's family.
